This design is loosely based on the Liberian flag and the country’s emblem. The ship brought freed slaves from the United States to Liberia to begin a new life on the African continent. The dove can be seen on the country’s emblem carrying a scroll. In my design, the dove carries a stalk of rice which is a stable grain in Liberia. The pattern overlaid on the red and white stripes reflects Liberian textiles.
