About the Book
Lily and the Batik Dragon is a work of fiction inspired by true stories. For my Master’s thesis in Urban Studies & Community Art at Eastern University, I interviewed six Chinese Indonesian immigrants from my neighborhood in South Philadelphia. This book is a collage of those stories I collected for my research during the winter of 2018. I wrote and illustrated the 36-page picture book with both children and adults in mind.
